New Era in Alzheimer’s Care at Align Neurology
At Align Neurology, we understand how concerning memory changes can be, for patients and for families. Alzheimer’s disease is deeply personal, and for a long time, options for diagnosis and treatment were limited. That has changed.
We are proud to offer advanced Alzheimer’s disease testing and treatment options, allowing us to identify the disease earlier and, in some cases, slow its progression.
Advanced Alzheimer’s Testing: ATN Biomarkers
Align Neurology now offers ATN biomarker testing, a modern approach that looks at the underlying biology of Alzheimer’s disease—not just symptoms.
ATN testing evaluates:
Amyloid (A): Plaque buildup in the brain
Tau (T): Abnormal tau proteins linked to cognitive decline
Neurodegeneration (N): Evidence of brain cell injury
These markers can be assessed through blood testing, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, or imaging, helping us provide clearer answers earlier in the disease process.
PET Imaging for Greater Diagnostic Clarity
For select patients, we also utilize PET scans to visualize changes in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease. PET imaging can identify amyloid and tau deposits and patterns of brain metabolism that support an accurate diagnosis—especially when symptoms are mild or unclear.
New FDA-Approved Treatments That Can Slow Progression
For patients with early Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer’s pathology, new FDA-approved therapies are now available. These medications target amyloid plaques and have been shown to slow cognitive and functional decline in carefully selected patients.
While these treatments are not cures, they represent meaningful progress—especially when started early. At Align Neurology, we carefully evaluate each patient to determine whether treatment is appropriate and safe.
Who Should Consider Evaluation?
We encourage an evaluation if you or a loved one is experiencing:
Changes in memory or thinking
Difficulty with daily tasks or word-finding
Subtle cognitive changes that feel “not quite right”
A family history of Alzheimer’s disease
Early testing allows for better planning, access to new therapies, and peace of mind, whether results confirm or rule out Alzheimer’s disease.
